I had one but it was way back in 1986. Lithotripsy had just been introduced.

what was your treatment and did you have any problems since?

I seem to remember mine being fairly impressive in size too.
The treatment was done under a general anaesthetic although I believe they don't put you out these days. I was OK, it was painless and I was up and about pretty quickly.
The worst thing I remember was keeping the stent in for a whole week. It tickled my bladder something rotten and I felt like I wanted to pee all the time.
I've had no further stones since but I do also suffer from polycystic kidneys. They run in my family so it wasn't a surprise."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
Been told mine would need to be under General
(terrified of it!)
I still do not know if my local hosptial will touch me or if it needs to be Guys in london

A general is brilliant. No need to worry about it.
I'd rather have it done at a place where they do it all the time than a local hospital who might have fewer cases.
When you consider what the treatment used to be before lithotripsy, it's a miracle.

No I haven't.
For my surgery they have to go through my back and make an incision in to my kidney - not sure what its called? Then I will need to have the normal stone treatment once or twice afterfun! lol

Oh yes, you will need a general for surgery but the drugs are great and there won't be any pain.
I think it's considered quite minor surgery. I wouldn't worry about it.
