bought strawberry plants in flower

Hi all,

I bought some Elsanta plants from tesco (£1.50 for three) and they are small plants but well in flower, with some small fruits forming.

Can I plant them up in my troughs or do I need to keep them in smaller pots for this season?

    Hi,

I would think they can go straight in your troughs. They should be fine. No need to start them off in smaller pots.

Thanks Linda! I grew strawberries once many years ago but neglected them and they got weevilled, I think. I wasn't sure if planting them in larger containers would "upset" them, if you know what I mean.

I'm hoping the trough planting (on metal staging) will also keep the slugs and snails off... just have to net them against the naughty blackbirds now!
