Credit card or default?

I am hoping some one can offer me some advice please.
I have a £1000 Lloyds tab credit card with a balance of £695 and a Next default for £297. The credit card should have been cleared this month but DH crashed his bloody car (and his mew work boots ended up costing us £300)
I am going to need a new car in the foreseeable future as I can no longer get a company car and ideally want a new car on a PCP and although my Mum / Husband will guarantor it, I want it in my name as I am fed up with having to rely on others.
I know a default isn't ideal but is it better to clear it now and struggle on reducing the card slowly or just pay it off before?
I could just ask my Mum to clear both but at 32 I have very nearly sorted my life out! Finally.

Can I ever learn this budgeting lark? So far it's not looking promising
