Quick question on DVD recording speeds

My DVD recorder uses 1-4x recording speed disks but these disks are becoming harder to find. Will I still be able to record with disks of 1-16x recording speeds?
If someone is able to answer this question, I'd be really grateful.

Yes you will. The 4X, 8X or 16X refers to the maximum speed that they can be written to.
Just as your car tyres may be rated at 130mph - it doesn't mean you've got to drive that fast.

Try updating your firmware for the device because that can sometimes make the recording speed quicker but with this you have to 100% sure in what your doingAlways looking for a bargain and to help0

Although if it's a DVD recorder you'd only want it going at 1x speed anyway."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I always use 8x disks, and always burn them at 4x with my 16x burner.
In other words, you can burn to speed UP TO what 1) the media supports AND AT THE SAME TIME 2) what the burner supports.
Similarly, with CDs, my burner supports 48x, which I think the media I have support as well, but I typically burn at 12x nonetheless.0 -

Ah missed that bit and thought it was a recorder on a PC rather than a standalone DVD recorderAlways looking for a bargain and to help0 -
Yes, for a PC it's usual to call it a DVD Writer, for standalone a recorder.
Some standalone recorders can be a bit iffy with faster rated discs, though they do send out a CD or you can download the files to put to a CD to update the recorders firmware.
With PC DVD Writers, again you can update the firmware for newer discs. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
