DLA Removing an Appointee

Hello everyone, first time poster here!
Back in April I made an application for DLA, I didn't realise though that because my parents were receiving it on my behalf about 5 years ago that I have an 'appointee' - My Mum!

I have since moved out and she received a letter last week asking to confirm and sign the document, she was happy to do this but I was confused as to why I even have an appointee and how I can remove my mum as my appointee. I am now 22 years old and am perfectly capable of managing my own finances and managing my health, I have since the age of 18 attended all hospital appointments by myself and managed things such as prescriptions myself and therefore do not feel as if I need an appointee.

I didn't know if anyone knew how I go about removing this as I feel it will probably hold up my claim further down the line or cause unnecessary complications! Thanks!

At the age of 16 the DWP should have done a home visit to decide along with your parent/s whether you were capable of managing your own affairs. If they think you are unable to do this they appoint in this case your mum asyour appointee.

Removing the apointee is very simple just get in touch with the DLA unit and tell them.
I made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!
