water on the outside of my freezer.

hope someone can help. :j
our freezer has got what appears to be condensation all over the top and sides. it is in our kitchen which is in the cellar it is a cool room and very hot outside today 22 degrees. i may appear a bit thick but is it normal as i have never had this problem in the past and the freezer has been in the same place for 8 years, or is the freezer a gonner even though all the food is frozen. any help much appreciated, many thanks, :)

    Try insulating the top and sides with some thin polystyrened foam, but don't block any vents or holes.

  • Quite normal if the freezer is kept somewhere cold. The body of the freezer will be at the same temperature as its "cold" surroundings. If the weather then warms up rapidly, condensation will often form on the item. My freezer (single thermostat !) is in a room at the rear of my unheated garage and often does this when the weather warms up.
    Warm weather allows the atmosphere to hold more moisture than cold, hence the effect.
