Portable dvd player to tv

Hi,
I've got a portable dvd player and in the manual it says I can connect it to a tv. I've bought the cable (acadaptorsrus.co.uk/35mm-35-jack-4-pole-to-3xrca-3rca-yellow-white-red-192-p.asp) but when I connect it via the red, yellow and white ports on the tv it doesn't work. i've rearranged so the colours aren't in the corresponding holes, ie white in red, red in yellow, and now I have a picture on the screen but it's green. What can I do to sort it out? I was hoping to take it on holiday on Monday so haven't really got time to order a new cable or anything.
Thanks

It might help to know the make and model of player and TV...?
The convention is that yellow = video, red = audio Right, and White = audio left0 -
Oops, it might
It's a Technika TKH7BPDVD and the TV is a Panasonic TXL42U3B.
I know that yellow is video but when I put it in the corresponding yellow video port there is no picture at all. It was when I tried it in the red or white audio ports that i got a picture on the screen. It seems a bit strange0
