Wasn't always the same way. I was a complete disaster financially when I met my wife. When we moved in together I gave her my bank cards and such because I knew I had to break my previous habits. Without her help back then, I am sure I would still be borrowing to "solve" my financial problems! Nowadays I can quite happily tell myself not to respond to every spending whim that passes between my ears. If it is something I really need, I always check to see if I can get it cheaper (QR readers on smartphones are a big help if you 're in the shops).
Ironically, the lousy interest rates have worked in our favour. When the fixed rate our mortgage ended our monthly payment dropped by over £400. That really speeded up the repayments over the last two years. Which reminds me... time to start reading the MFW forum.Debt balance at LBM, 6/6/2008 = £13,946.53 +£14,000 fixed term loan
plus brand new car and bathroom since then.
