LG telly broken

I purchased a 50" LG plasma TV (50PK350) at the end of Jan last year, unfortunately it will not turn on, i.e. you press the on button on the remote (or the TV) it switches on briefly and then turns off again. Ran LG who gave me another number to ring as it is outside the warranty, they also said that I should get a quote and put it in an email to LG saying that they should consider mending the TV as it is only just out of warranty.
Anyway rang this other number who said that it would cost £404 to come out and mend my TV
Emailed LG and told them what has happened and they want a full report from an engineer - but this is going to cost me in the short term.
Any ideas on what I can do now?

You should be talking to the retailer you bought the TV from rather than LG. You'll be looking for repair or replacement. I think they're allowed 3 attempts at repair. Under the Sale of Goods Act this TV should last a reasonable amount of time, and 15 months (?) is not reasonable to most people I guess for a big, branded TV. Be polite with them though rather than banging the table and making threats.
If you paid by credit card you'll have additional protection.0 -
Only thing to bear in mind is if its already developed a fault, its out of warranty there is a risk another fault could occur.
Personally if its out of warranty and the repair is nearly 400 i would question spending that much.
TVs are getting cheaper and you may find you can get a lot more for tht 400 tht your existing tv. If your lucky you may be able to get some free warranty, that depends where you buy it from though.
Good luck0 -
You are right about prices coming down - Morrisons had a 40'' inch HD freeview television for £265 today!0
