Boiler

Looks like my Keston 500 (no idea, was in the house when I moved in) has given up the ghost.

Any help appreciated. I have a big hot water tank on the floor upstairs. But I don't know if "water on demand" is better?

Also my pipework goes under the floorboards, and I have tried to get someone to fit inspection hatches but it seems like a very small jib so can't get anyone to do it.

Help?? Is just swapping the boiler best? Will they do that with the now non-conformist pipes?

A good place to start is here. A RGI, recommended to you by a source you trust needs to conduct a site survey and discuss your requirements.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Do you mean a Keston K50? Sounds like you mean flued in void, you need a RGI or Keston specialist. I had same problem, used a company
    referred by Keston.

Well, the repair man (am on a monthly pay scheme, makes mum happy) says he can make it live again but it'll be a few days for the parts. Serious 3 cheers for the emergency immersion heater. Also having looked at the house, the boiler even if I replace it will need to stay where it is as there is nowhere else to put it.

So I am going to need inspection hatches put in. I have asked for a quote from a gas safe engineer (am sure monthly cover company will be expensive) althoguh repair man says the house builder should come and put them in.

Seems unlikely to me as I am 1 month out of NHBC but am writing to the builder in case.

    It is unlikely, isn't it?

Am not too worried about ugliness of hatches, that is what rugs are for! What does parts and fitting cost though?

Thanks in advance for opinions! I just want it all correct and fixed...

Get a local handyman to put the inspection hatches in.

He will be a lot cheaper than a RGI.

I always give the job to someone else for that exact reason and the fact I never have time for such jobs.

Now I did say I was a bit slow about these things.. how will a handyman know where to put them? Doesn't it need someone who understands pipes?

You just need to know where the flue runs in the ceiling and if he cuts one in about every 1m it will be enough to inspect the flue annually.
