Ryanair Cancels my Flights!

I've just received an e mail from Ryanair cancelling my flights from East Midlands to Rhodes in October, due to 'operational reasons'!
They have offered me a full refund, or the option to fly from 'nearby airports'.
When checking their website for alternative flights from 'nearby airports', I find that they are not offering any flights for the same dates (I've already booked a hotel for the original flight dates) from any other UK airports!
This is the second time this year Ryanair have done this to me, and apparently I have no claim for compensation, as they've given me more than 2 weeks notice of the cancellation!
It seems Ryanair can treat customers badly, and yet still enjoy 25% increase in profits!!!

Do you think Ryanair are treating customers fairly, by cancelling flights in advance? 12 votes

It just seems unfair when it happens twice with the same airline, within a 6 week period though Bob!0 -

Article 8 of EU Regulation EC261/2004 http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32004R0261:EN:HTML says they must offer you a choice of a, b or c when they cancel flights (Article 5)
Article 8
Right to reimbursement or re-routing
1. Where reference is made to this Article, passengers shall be offered the choice between:
(a) - reimbursement within seven days, by the means provided for in Article 7(3), of the full cost of the ticket at the price at which it was bought, for the part or parts of the journey not made, and for the part or parts already made if the flight is no longer serving any purpose in relation to the passenger's original travel plan, together with, when relevant,
- a return flight to the first point of departure, at the earliest opportunity;
(b) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at the earliest opportunity; or
(c) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at a later date at the passenger's convenience, subject to availability of seats.
It doesn't say that re-routing has to be only offerred on Ryanair.

Thanks for that Bob. I got the impression from their e mail that I could only use flights offered by Ryanair, when re-routing?
Cheers,

Are there any suitable alternative flights on other airlines?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
The closest airport with flights out and back on same dates, is Stansted, with Thomsons, but approx £80 more expensive!0

That looks like your option b) re-routing.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
i had this a couple of months ago too. Stansted was now the only airport they flew to my chosen destination but it wasnt practical. I managed to cancel the hotel booking and got ryanair to change the flight destination completely which worked in my favour as i got a much more expensive flight instead.0
