Sat nav rentals?

:hello:
I am due to drive up to gateshead in a few weeks, from crawley - near Gatwick, anyways i was thinking about renting a Sat Nav as it will only be me and my son travelling and he can't direct!
I looked at a couple of websites that rent Sat Nav, hasanyone had any experience of this or can anyone recommend a company?
I'm just a bit weary as it's all done by post and they want a refundable deposit which i'm more than happy to pay but just scared incase i get skanked!
Or does anyone know of any shops that do this?

Mel x

Talk to the car rental companies as they offer them as an option when you hire a car. They may offer you one on its own.

Otherwise, borrow one from a friend.

There are several companies doing this, I will list them in case I'm accused of being bias :

zintech, satnavman, roadpal, satnav2go, cheapsatnavhire etc..

I used the latter (seemed to have the cheapest deal for me) and I found it worked fine. Item arrived as promised and refund returned same day the sat nav was delivered back to them. Very useful piece of equipment, saved me a load of trouble.

Can't vouch for any of the others but cheapsatnavhire were certainly professional in my case.

Personally, I think that its not worth the cost and I would only do this if I really really could not afford to buy one otherwise.

Currently in this month's issue of PC Advisor there is a review on all the major Sat Nav devices.

As Sat Nav devices came down drastically in price towards the end of last year they are now affordable.

People think they only need them for the one trip, but they make a difference between going somewhere you otherwise wouldn't go because you don't know where it is. You also don't worry about getting lost. The technology has also matured, so you don't have to really worry too much about it going out of date in the near future (several years).

For the cost of delivery and return and the concern it might get lost/damaged, I personally think its worth paying the extra and having it all year round.

We bought a Navman unit last year, its a good unit, and the latest version is available for less than £150 if you shop around. Actually Dabs.com have it for £135.

Enjoy your trip to Gateshead :)

Hi astonsmummy, I've got the Garmin street pilot i3 only cost £99 (used to be over 200) and it's fab, so easy to use and probably costs even less now. You can download speed camera locations so it bleeps when you are approaching one to remind you to slow down if you’re driving a little to fast. You can also download thousands of points of interest such as schools, cinemas, theatres and shops for all over the country.
