Last week desktop monitor stopped working bought new 22 inch LED. Good monitor large clear screen everything working ok. A week on get home today switch on computer seems to fire up hear fans starting up unfortunately no signal getting to monitor. tried restarting a few times, checked leads still no joy (Was working ok last night). No unusual noises coming from case. Took out hard drive put into caddy managed to access it so seems to be working ok. I can only think that PSU has stopped working properly. The existing PSU is a 520W modular corsair that was put in about 3 years ago.
I am just hoping that if I get computer working again nothing else goes wrong with it at this rate would be cheaper buying a new computer.
Currently using my NC10 netbook plugged into new monitor not ideal but gets me online.
If I need a replacement power supply any suggestions for a good quality reasonably priced ATX PSU.

Might have an old graphics card lying around. Try that tomorrow.0

If it is the PSU, check the model as some Corsair PSU's come with upto 7 years warranty (eg AX series).
If you need to check the PSU these are a cheap way to do so - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Power-Supply-Tester-Testing-20-24-Pin-PSU-ATX-BTX-ITX-SATA-HDD-PC-Computer-/150796303625?pt=UK_Computing_PowerSupplies_EH&hash=item231c28fd09 - note these aren't infallible for example a PSU may degrade under heavy draw which these items can't replicate.0 -
Tried replacement power supply still having issues. Took out all cable and reset them. Graphics card and memory taken out and replaced. Computer still not operating a couple of times did get video signal through to monitor then locked up after bios screen once even started loading up windows got to desktop then locked up. Coming to the conclusion that motherboard knackered. I am now thinking of replacing motherboard and processor with something more up to date. Base unit was about 7 years old and was considering upgrading prior to this.
Any recomendations for decent motherboard/processor/memory bundles considering spending around £200.0 -

What you do with the PC depends on whats best to purchase.
Do you use it for gaming? Or just work/Browsing Internets?0 -

The computer will mainly be used for general surfing / home office with occasional gameplay. Looking for a general all round purpose machine.0 -
I would price up a basic off the shelf first, dell dell outlet etc,
cheapest thing around will do the job,
Got mine for £200 4 years ago and it still does everything fine.
Inspiron 530 E4500 Core 2 Duo Prsr 2.20GHz 2*320gig drives and 3gig menory
if it goes wrong there is a warrenty.
OK not as much fun as a build but probably the same or cheaper.0 -
