Why do people post a question...then not bother to at least put a reply in and say thanks to all the comments?
Instead they just log on, read it, and then log off again?
Couldn't agree more."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
Im not talking about the "thanks" rating. I am saying, if you ask a question, I am sure if you came back the next day and found 19 replies...that you would at least update the thread with a "thanks for your help", or "thats not the answer I was hoping for"...
But to ask for help, have 19 responses by the time you next log on, and then just not even take the time to post a reply to everybody seem a little off to me.
The thanks rating means little to me also dont worry

Maybe because they are a newbie & therefore deserve a little more 'understanding' from those who are not?
Valid point
That could be true.
Although most noobs appear to only post when they need something, and are usually lurkers long before so know the system.
It wasnt a personal dig at purely this OP tho, it happens a lot.Be nice0 -
As well as inexperience, I also think that the OP is more inclined to give thanks if they get the answer that they want rather than the truth, sometimes.
As in this case perhaps.:)"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
I'm afraid you won't get the money back. It's a private sale and there's no way of knowing whether he was aware of the engine problems or not?
What exactly did his email say? Maybe pay him a visit with a couple of friends? You could always leave it on his drive when he's out and remove the wheels!0 -
Sounds more like to me that the garage also ripped you off knowing you knew nothing of cars history.
This is when the knowledgeable car friend comes in!
I think your going to have to put this down to experience and next time check out a car properly with someone whos knowledgeable or get a vehicle check by aa so you have some recourse before plunging in and buying.0 -

How was the garage ripping the OP off by saying the car needed more than it was worth spent on it? "The mechanic said that there was something majorly mechanically wrong with the engine and that it would cost more than I paid for it to put it right"
If the compression was gone on two cylinders it WOULD cost more than the OP paid for it to put it right..0 -
if the mechanic was honest0
