Vynil floor and carpet grippers?

Hi,
we are trying to replace the carpet in the bathroom with vynil floor.
When we removed the carpet we found that all around the walls it was fixed with some sort of needles backed on wooden strips (are they called carpet grippers?), while in the center there is carpet underlay.
The question is - should we remove the grippers and underlay and then fix the vynil with double sided tape, or can we use the existing grippers to fix it? Won't it rip the vynil?
Thanks for answers!

rip up the grippers and skip them.
underlay is up to you. you might like to get a suitable waterproof underlay?Get some gorm.0 -
You cant fix vinyl with grippers you have to use double sided tape.
Use a good quality vinyl or cushion floor you cant put vinyl onto carpet underlay.
If you have got old fashioned 4 inch floorboards you will have to put down thin plywood or else all the board edges will show thro in a month or two.
Be carefull when taking up the gripper its extremely sharp....if you kneel on it it hurts.0
