The only ones that I can see that have stayed on the freebies board is Walkers and Tropicana and that is because everyone gets a prize. Please send me a p,m if there are more that have been missed by the bg's.

If everyone gets something then its a freebie but if there are a limited number whether its 100 or 10,000 and its not on a first come first serve then its a comp.

    Hope that helps

got you now. A voucher is classed as a freebie, even though you have to put a financial contribution with the voucher. So that being the case anyone can post a thread for eg a £15 voucher if you receive an email, even though the minimum spend is £50, or 20p off a mars bar to all who sign up for a newsletter.

No different to the walkers/tropicana freebie, most people are getting a free voucher, and Mr Kipling clearly states 10,000, as far as I am concerned its a great freebie, but no guarantee of a win
To everyone at Ward 40, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, from the specialist to the tea lady, many thanks for everything.
  • I think it should have stayed how it was with any competition with more than 1000 prizes, so a fair amount of people likely to get one, should still be on freebies board!

I see exactly what you mean. If a purchase is necessary then its not a freebie but I pm'd mse about one of those comps and they are happy for it to stay on the freebies board.

Its such a grey area, it used to be if there were 1000 or more available whether it was 1st come 1st served or not it could go on the comps but now as per Andreas post its a comp unless its 1st come 1st served or everyone is guarenteed something.

Sorry to drag this up, but I think you've just answered the question. In that it used to be so much simpler, there were no grey areas. More than 1,000 = freebie. Less than 1,000 (and not first come first served) = comp.

I really can't quite understand why it's been made to change just because MSE introduced a new feature. Did anyone actually complain that they were getting "competitions" from the freebies board? Did anyone say they were getting them twice? I spend a lot of time on this board, but hardly any on comps. I know some will religiously go through both, but if they do I can't see they'd be using the wow feature in any case.

I'm also unsure what's wrong with having things posted twice; yes its not as tidy, but if it's found to be more useful, why not!

It seems to me that nobody is overly happy with this, nor very sure how to implement it consistently (at least without referring things to the Forum Team).

I'm not expecting the WOW notification feature to go, or these new rules to be abolished, but how about:
    a) modify the rules as some have suggested
    b) allow things that would have been threads on this board to be posted as links (to their new home in comps) in a single thread on this board so that users of Freebies can browse through without having to keep up with the fast pace of comps. Only posts that met the old rules would be allowed.
  • personally I agree with Andrea, because I have analyzed this action t my self to finding freebies its too compete.

Seems I have fallen foul of this with my thread :

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4472559=

I assumed it would be worth posting in the freebies board (I posted only in competitions board when they ran the olympic predictor and it was subsequently posted in freebies section and was popular and wasn't removed)

I think it falls under the category of freebie as once you pick your team you are pretty much guaranteed to earn redspotted hanky points.

You earn 1 loyalty point (worth 1p in train fares) per point earned in the game. Given you earn a point per lap completed and most drivers will on average complete at least 50 laps a race, 4 drivers is roughly £2 earned a race. There are 20 races a season, so ability is there to get a lot of money that you can use at redspottedhanky not to mention all the other points you can earn.

Previously they have capped the rsh points at 1500, but I don't see any mention of a cap this time around.

Basically I think it is also a freebie and want to make sure people can benefit, but if those are the rules then so be it. Just think it deserves a place on this board too.

Totally agree - its not like there are that many new items on the Freebies board each day anyway, I've noticed the freebies posted getting fewer and fewer over the last couple of years. The competitions forum on here is a mess - and I do enter competitions, lots of them, but via other methods than MSE - I think the old rules were fine, 1000 or more means a high chance of getting one so it should be on here, nothing wrong with it being on Competitions as well, its not unusual to post useful information in separate places. I think its jealous compers thinking people who don't use the comp forum should not get to hear about these large-scale giveaways.

I am also agreed with Andrea because it helps in finding freebies. Thanks
