If you are ringing the bank (I assume you aren't into Online banking), ask them if there are any pending transactions.

Total scam, don't give them a penny and don't apply to anyone but repuatable lenders.

Your bad credit history will, I'm sorry to say, mean you won't be able to get a loan of any kind that would be viable.

If all they have is the information that you would find on a cheque book (i.e. name of account holder, account number, branch address and sort code) then you SHOULD be OK. Try not to panic, but do be aware that you should never, ever, pay any sort of up front 'fee' to a lender or broker. Decent ones won't ask for it as they make their money through commission and interest.

dfk, I'll give you an example of what iolanthe07 has described above when looking for a loan.

    Go to this website
    http://www.wentworthdirect.co.uk/

Don't enter anything in the boxes, just click CONTINUE

At the bottom of the purple box, YOUR PRIVACY.
Have a look what happens when you hover over the little exclamation mark.
It tells you that by inputting your name, you have accepted the terms.

There is a link to the Terms and Conditions above the box for your name, click on it.
For our services there is a brokers fee of £69.95 charged which is payable by you the client for the use of our services as a broker. This is charged as an up front fee.
This is one example of how you will be scammed, as soon as they have your details they will take the money, there will be no loan for you.

You still haven't told us which website you originally went on and filled out your details.

My bankruptcy was forced upon me as my ex left me in huge debt in joint names. My circumstances have now totally changed and my finances are (or seem to be) stable. I only applied for a small loan to pay for workmen to construct a ramp for my wheelchair into the garden. I never intend to fall into huge debt again.

Every bankrupt has a good reason behind that is not their fault. Further, every bankrupt has an excellent reason for getting more credit.

I would say a good percentage of bankrupty members who come on here would not tell the whole truth why they went bankrupt, with bankrupts it's not normally their fault according to them.

It's always an Ex wife or Girlfriend is the best excuse and of course their are genuine ones but they are very rare.

I think in the courts they should set out different rules like someone who generally had no choice and legit through divorce etc should be 5 years with a trashed credit report & for the bankrupts who continued to spend the banks money on credit cards & loans knowing full well they couldnt pay it back should be 15 years with a trashed file.
