I have recently been discharged from bankruptcy and also seperated from my wife. I decided I wanted to make a few changes where I live so filled in a loan form on line. The above company contacted me today to say I have been accepted. We talked through amounts and payment scales and I assumed that was that. I was then asked if I could go to a paypoint and purchase a £65 ucash voucher (Just to see if I have funds for repayments). I am then to wait for their call and within an hour of the call they will deposit loan PLUS my £65 into my account. Surely this is too good to be true? They have given me a phone number for customer services 02032392059 which as far as I can tell isn`t a premium number.

Help please I cant afford to lose £65

Please tell us you haven't already done it!!

If you have done, you have already lost £65. You will get a further call about Loans Transfer fees or some other such made up rubbish, to get the loan you will have to send more money by Ukash.

Assuming the penny still hasn't dropped, you will receive a further call asking for some more money for "clearance fees" or some other such made up rubbish.

Assuming the penny STILL hasn't dropped, you will receive a further call asking for some more money for "Security Insurance" or some other such made up rubbish.

Do I need to go on? It's a scam.
Nobody is going to ring you with a genuine loan offer, NOBODY.

No I came here for advice instead although I foolishly gave them my bank account details for them to "deposit the loan" can thet access anything? It`s only a basic account with no overdraft facility just a debit card (they dont have those details)

And what a great way to celebrate too by trying to get some credit. I'm sure it'll all work out well for you again :)

You might be £65 lighter then.

My bankruptcy was forced upon me as my ex left me in huge debt in joint names. My circumstances have now totally changed and my finances are (or seem to be) stable. I only applied for a small loan to pay for workmen to construct a ramp for my wheelchair into the garden. I never intend to fall into huge debt again.

Assuming the OP has given sort code and account number only, the only way the 'lender' (who, OP, have 'scam' written all over them) could access his account is via direct debit. Unless the OP explicitly agreed for them to collect a DD, they'd be breaking some serious rules. In any case, DDs take up to 10 working days to register. A sort code and account number alone aren't sufficient info to allow a company to dive headfirst into a bank account (unless they're also operating an ID-theft sideline).

OP, if you've only provided your SC/AN, you should be OK. But, call or visit your bank to explain the possibility of rogue debits in the near future.

If you've given card details, you may indeed be £65 lighter already!

Trouble is your applying to a company that don't lend.

No card details given. Thank you I will phone my bank first thing tomorrow. I know I sound dumb but for 23 years my ex dealt with all the finances as I am wheelchair bound and it was "easier" for her to do everything. This is all a learning curve for me.

    Halelooooooya

Ukash is completely un-reversible, which is why they use it, it is the same as you leaving an envelope full of cash on a park bench.

Keep an eye on that bank account. Do you recall which website you entered your details on? It would be remarkable if you are not already £65 short. We may be able to help you retrieve it but it will take a while.

At present that account is empty. I only use it to pay bills and my internet grocery shopping. I am not due to put any money into it for 4 more days. Hopefully by then this mess will be sorted!!!
