Total TOPS loyalty scheme ending 9 April but they've kept it quiet!
I'm really angry having just checked the balance of my Total TOPS card online, and stumbled across this on their site.....
http://www.topscard.com/ml/topsonline.cfm?page=2
The scheme is ending on 9th April
It says "we are closing tops but letters have not yet been sent to customers. You will receive these in the next few weeks."
Has anyone received a letter about this? I haven't. They also have my e-mail address on file and I can't see why they couldn't have sent an e-mail out. I've also visited a few Total garages in the last fortnight and didn't see any notices to say it was ending.
Although the information they give on their site is vague, I presume that cards with under 5000 points will become null and void after 9 April. I think that's a real kick in the teeth to their loyal customers who, like me, may have 3500 points on their card but can't reasonably be expected to buy £250+ of petrol in a notice period of only 4 weeks to make the balance up to 5000 points.
I think the closing date should have been announced much earlier (AND more prominently, by sending out e-mails and displaying bold signs at their garages) in order that customers could make a calculated decision on whether they would be able to achieve 5000 points before the closing date, or alternatively buy their petrol elsewhere and earn loyalty points off their rivals.
Come to think of it, the closing date hasn't really been announced at all, has it? After all, I only found this by accident!

This caught my eye though......We’re planning lots of exciting promotions for 2007. Here’s just a taste of what’s to come:
TOTAL Excellium gives you more miles out of every tankful. Put it to the test in May in a special money-back guarantee promotion
Now that's gonna be an interesting one. Hoover Free Flights, anyone?0 -
I havent seen a Total Petrol station for ages .... all I ever seen around London are Shell, BP and Esso.If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

I have just emailed Total ('contact@topscard.com') to ask how they are going to compensate me. Over the last few months, I could easily have bought cheaper fuel elsewhere, had I known that their loyalty card was going to be stopped.0

i got an email and a letter in january, and every time i filled up the cashier would always say you know this is ending in april !!
to be honest it was never the best rewards scheme last year we spent about £6000 and only got £30 worth of vouchers which is about 0.5%Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I used my card a couple of times in the weeks running up to 9th. This usage would haven taken me over the 5000 limit, yet they haven't shown up on my statement and hence I won't be able to claim. I think I'll avoid Total in the future as I have got plenty of choice in my area0

I have emailed them again, requesting a reply to my March 31st email.
Such a large company should not be allowed to deceive customers. In oil-industry terms, it wouldn't cost them much to send each affected customer an extra £5 voucher in compensation.
Also, as described on their website, I have asked them for a list of my transactions so that I can see exactly when I accumulated my 2831 points. (I know that they were all before I received the letter in mid-March).0 -
I'm not really getting wound up, I just think it's a matter if principle. It's MY two quid, not theirs ! Also, if they have 100,000 customers with an average of £2.50 (2500 points) who don't complain, that's a quarter of a million pounds they don't need to pay out !
PS.... I just had a very nice email from Topscard saying that they are sending me a £5 M&S voucher in compensation !0
