I have had to re-install Windows XP (as per earlier thread), now when I boot up it come up with WINDOWSXP (HOME EDITION) listing in DOS twice when you have to select (it will eventually start on the top on after 30 seconds) but how can I remove the need for either clicking on the top one or waiting?
Thanks

Winkey+Pause | Advanced tab | Startup and recovery Settings | Change the time to 2 seconds (or whatever).
That will minimise the time the menu shows. Unfortunately I don't have XP anymore so I can't see how to remove the "old" XP from the list. However a quick Google yields lots of results, like this one.0 -
Perhaps another clean install, but this time delete or format the old partition.0

Do you actually have two versions of XP installed (in different folders) or are both entries referencing the same instal? How do I add a signature?0

Already covered in post #2.0 -
I think the old one has somehow been left, I tried a repair, before the re-install, it kept everything (the old user name files) even though I had it backup up, (made for quicker transfer). There is only one windows folder but there are two folders made up of a long string of letters & numbers, maybe because I had to use a different disc to the original to re-install from. Will have a go at editing the Boot.ini

In my opinion you'd be far better off doing as has been suggested above and starting again, this time ensuring everything pre-existing gets removed by deleting and recreating the partition. In the long run it will probably save you a great deal of time and frustration. How do I add a signature?0 -
I cannot Figment, there are programs on there which the users son has put on for him, so this is the best I can do. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club

If you did a fresh install, you may find that (at least some of) those programs no longer workHow do I add a signature?0
