Age Concern and Age UK - not necessarily the same.

Today I spent some time trying to get a good price for my elderly aunt's car insurance. My aunt said she was insured with Age Concern. I went on the internet, did a search for Age Concern, was directed to the site which said "Age Concern and Help the Aged are now Age UK". I contacted the insurance department by phone and twice separately was told my aunt did not have motor insurance with them, and that the reference number was not theirs, and they did not use the underwriter I named. My aunt and I were worried! It was only by contacting the underwriter/broker direct that I got to the bottom of it.

It turns out that Age Concern Birmingham (and who knows where else) never joined in the merger and are still trading separately.

I should add that the small local Age Concern renewed the policy for a sum several hundred pounds cheaper than the new huge joined up Age UK. Curious!
