Old Abbey share dividend entitlement

Hi - my husband received a letter and claim form today from a company called ProSearch about his unclaimed Abbey National share dividend entitlement of £494.68 and share entitlement of 100 Santander CDIs. The last known address they had on file was years and years ago so they have done a good job of finding us! So, all good that there is money due (we all love that!) but they are going to charge 10% plus VAT of the dividend and share entitlement value in order to help us claim it - stating we need to do so by 8th June.

My question is - do we have to use their help or can we claim the money & shares ourselves for free? I don't think we have copies of the orignal share certs (had a house fire in 2002 and lost loads of paperwork and just forgot all about these shares!).

Any help and/or advice much appreciated.
Thanks

You want to speak to the Santander share registrar. I think they will charge you something but it might be less

    Lots of info at http://www.santandershareholder.co.uk/shareholder-services?shareholderType=equiniti

Under FAQs there is a section about ProSearch. It doesn't say you have to use them, so I would first contact Equiniti's Santander Shareholder line on 0121 415 7188 to see whether they will allow you to claim your dividends and CDIs [shares]. If you have no certificate that will almost certainly cost you something as well. ProSearch's charge may or may not include that.

100 Santander CDIs are worth about £366 today.
