  • A teapot and a box of cookies are a great way to introduce yourself to and make friends with flatmates/neighbours on move in day. :)

My girls can't have candles in their student rooms so maybe not the candles. Is she going catered or selfcatered? Ours went selfcatered so we bought them basic cooking stuff, cutlery and crockery. A pretty duvet cover or throw is a nice way of personalising a student room.

Heh at all of the above.

What she really needs in there:
Vodka - for the first night with new flatmates
    Paracetemol - for the hangovers
Keyring rape alarm - whatever she tells you, she WON'T be taking taxis home whenever it's late/dark/she's alone
    Condoms - self explanatory

A basic tool kit - Ikea sell them for about £5 - you make lots of friends if you have a screwdriver!

I would defo get a door stop. As daft as it sounds, when I went to Uni it's really intimidating in halls and it's easy to shut your door and not come out! If you have a door stop it will help with moving stuff in, and it makes you look less intimidating! That's how I met some of my now still friends 10 years ago almost! I would poss go for a night in?

I would think that the tea towels, cutlery and crockery are the good stuff you get to choose yourself. How about a month free to Lovefilm? Some popcorn? Bottle of wine/ vodka (will make the grandchild popular!) nibbles, like a night in sort of thing?
And then perhaps do an emergency food parcel a month or so in? My Mum used to do red cross parcels which were a box, covered in brown paper with a felt tipped red x on it.It was really funny and defo appreciated after the first few weeks of spending money drinking and thinking the loan was a magic never ending suply of money! Then realising there was nothing but pasta to live off! Could put smellies, herbs, oxos, garlic, cereal, microwaveable rice, pasta, pasta sauces, chocolate, face packs, sweets, socks anything really!

How about using a photo frame and putting in red card and tape some money on and write 'break glass incase of emergency' on the glass, so if they need money in an emergency they will be ok :)
Also ready meals if they dont have a lot of time e.g. pot noodles, soup
Makeup wipes are really handy! and also deodrant and other things they will use
Saving and buying for Christmas 2013!! :rudolf::xmassmile:xmastree::snow_grin :D

I put together some uni essentials for a friend, in her box I put:

A key ring, for the keys to her new room.
Pens, for when she feels like studying.
Blue Tac so she can put up pictures in her room.
A bottle opener, no explanation needed
    Asprin, for the morning after
Pro plus for late night cramming
Door stop to keep her door open so flat mates can pop in and out
And then I made a little hanging decoration to make the room her own!

Tin foil! I was the only one of my 12 flatmates that had tin foil and it came in so useful - not just for cooking but also great for the many fancy dress events you have in first year. :p
