Student Hamper

Morning all!
Could anyone give me some ideas on what to put in a Hamper for my Granddaughter going off to Uni in September.
I spotted a small book - Student recipes, that gave me the idea.
I want to include some food items (want it to be quite practical and useful) but also a few fun and quirky things.

Anything she wont have to pay out for:-
Toilet roll
Kitchen Towel
Kitchen sponges for washing up
Washing up liquid
Herbs spices (basics like mixed herbs - salt mill - pepper mill - garlic mill - chilli flakes mill)
Stock cubes or Bisto instant granules
Ketchup or brown sauce
Soap
Toothpaste
Shower Gel
T Towels
Mugs
Jar coffee (Dow Egberts do lovely stoppered jars you could personalise)
Tea bags in a funky tin
Tesco voucher to get her first shopping
Nibbles like pringles or nuts
Funky apron or oven glove
Hope that helps a bit.

I did something similar as a christms present for my nephew year before last. I included a notebook which I wrote in loads of different easy recipes which could be made cheaply and also some of his favourites from our family so he had a taste of home... grandad's spag bol, nana's savoury mince, auntie jo's meatballs etc etc (my sil did this for my husband when he went to uni and we still use it now and the beauty is there were loads of pages left which we have gone on and added new recipes to over the years). On top of this I put in tea bags, sticks of instant coffee, a couple of big bars of chocolate, some biccies, a couple of bottles of lager, shower gel and deoderant and some alka seltzer/ibuprofen.
To this you could add shampoo, some lemsip, a tea towel, maybe a new mug (plate, bowl, cutlery) possibly even collect the individual sugar sachets to go in or hot chocolate sachets. The beauty of this is you could add as little or as much as you wanted. I tried to include some treat items (never a bad thing to have some choccie or some biccies or a bottle of beer in there if they are feeling a bit homesick) and then some items that they might need but possibly wouldn't think to buy/have in if they needed it (lemsip/alka seltzer/ibuprofen etc). If you wanted to get some food items then pasta is a student staple, possibly some of the packet sauces or super noodles, tins of beans, tuna, soup so they have some very quick basic meals there if they don't want to cook properly. A previous poster's idea of a preloaded sainsburys or tesco gift card would be good too so she had some money straight away to do a shop.0 -
teaspoons (and maybe cutlery)

A good idea for a student (as we know students are always hard up!) is an "emergency £10". You can get the keyrings which you can put a tenner in for emergency money. My nan gave my brother this when he passed his driving test to keep in his car and it came in so handy one night when he was practically out of petrol without his wallet!:T Mummy to 1. Devoted wife. booze - please don't forget the booze!
Otherwise personally I'd say go for the things that are really useful but wouldn't usually buy yourself! So herbs and spices is a really good idea! Candles would be nice. Something fancy dress like bunny ears? More booze (this is crucial). So0me nice balsamic vinegar. Cooking oil?
EDT - Face masks, shampoo - things you won't bother with if you are a student but cheer you up! Picture of the family in a frame. A diary - students always forget how important this is!House saving Targets:

Thanks! so much everyone - got so many ideas now, I don't know where to start.
Like the idea of a supermarket voucher (will have to find out what is nearby.)
I never thought of things like Towels and teaspoons etc but I suppose you could go on and on.0
