Hi there.
I'm looking to get as long a 0% on purchases card as possible for one big purchase (I can afford the repayments).
First Direct do 0% for 56 days on purchases but they do 20 months 0% on balance transfers from competitor cards (transferred within the first 2 months)
Would I be able to do the following:
- Purchase the item on the First Direct card
- Transfer the balance to a third party 0% card
- Transfer that balance back to the First Direct card and receive 0% for 20 months.
?

You could - if you have or are able to get another card with a sufficently high limit (assuming you already have recently got the first direct card with a sufficent limit).
You'll pay 2 lots of balance transfer fees to do it though.
If the other 'third party' card is 0% then why the need to transfer it back straight away?
How about just applying for a new card that has a long 0% purchase period - to save on all transfer fees (several around that have 15months plus - if thats still not long enough you could then consider a balance transfer at that point of a much lower balance - so a lower fee).
Or how about going for a second card (the one you transfer from first direct to) that has a long 0% balance transfer period (which could be longer than 20months and would only incur 1 transfer fee)A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
