The BAnks could retrench and accept modest profits for modest services, and I guess that is what will happen a bit like a budget airline model, or an ALDI model, quality but limited choice.
Or perhaps A new form of cooperative/credit union for members.
I don't consider a loaf of sliced white and a pint of semi-skimmed to be 'exotic needs', but I don't expect Tesco to supply these to me for free whilst passing the costs on to buyers of foie gras and Champagne.
Of course, its quite possible that supermarkets do subsidise the price of milk in the hope that you might be tempted to pick up a bottle something more exotic, but you certainly don't have any kind of right to this subsidy.
Of course if supermarkets really were like banks, they would probably give you the milk and bread for free, but charge you £15 for a carrier bag and fine you £25 for spending more than 2 minutes in the car park. The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.0
