Compensation for road works

Hi all
I currently live about 75-100 yards from a main road which is the main road out of the town to the M1 motorway so as you can imagine it is very busy. At the moment it is a single carriageway and due to the amount of accidents and traffic build up it is being widened to a dual carriageway.
Now while I think this is a great idea it is going to take a long time to do and I will have to put up with a lot of congestion (which'll impact my husband and I getting to work) a lot of noise and once finished heavier traffic therefore more pollution etc and I have 2 children to think about. The road will also be a little nearer as the road is widening in my direction. At present we are also have a tramway built so if I go one way I'll be stuck due to the road works for that and the other way I'll be stuck due to the widening of the new road.
I worry that this is going to devalue my house with it being nearer to the road now and because of the noise and pollution, not only that but I was considering selling in the next couple of years and the road works could potentially put people off!
I've checked the website of the highways agency and it said I may be entitled to compensation under Part I of the Land Compensation Act 1973 but this doesn't cover inconvenience/pollution/problems selling just the house valuation itself.
Do you think I am entitled to any compensation or possible force them to purchase my property off me?
I am not a money grabber I just want what I think will be my losses both financially and for mine and my families extreme inconvenience.
Do you think a no win no fee solicitor may take it on?
Thanks (sorry if this is posted in the wrong bit)

Sounds like you are a money grabber to me.
Do you think they should compensate all the drivers that are inconvenienced too? Where does it end.
Only the house value and only if you can prove it and even then it's a long shot.
And buy your property? what on earth for? because you have a bit of roadworks outside your house? come on....are you really being serious here?
I very very very much doubt any solicitor will take it on, but I am not one so give one a call and see what they think.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Hold on a minute, thats a bit harsh. I am a respectable person in a well paid employment therefore having no need to grab money.
The road will be nearer and there will be more cars therefore more pollution.
Due to the above people may not want to buy my house so this may impact the value. It also may be un-sellable while the road works are going on. These are not just standard road works its a huge job that may go on for 2 years or more. If I'd have known when I bought the house I wouldn't have bought it so I have to assume others will have the same opinion.
I have no other option to use the road as it is at the bottom of my street, people not on my street can go around.
Please do not be rude and name calling is childish and something I will not enter in to. All I want is advice, is that not what this site is for? I can't imagine Martin Lewis would have found your advice constructive.
Many thanks to everyone else.0 -

How did you get on in your quest for compensation ? You are able to make a claim under Part 1 of The Land Compensation Act 1973. There is a firm in Cardiff called Carrick and Company that specialises in this type of work. Give them a call and I am sure they will let you know if you could claim.
You are replying to a thread dated 2012.
Best to check before touting for business. :beer:0 -
What makes you think that the road is being widened it would create more traffic and pollution??? Erm...... der brain. The traffic is already using the road so by widening it will get the traffic flowing faster and DECREASE POLLUTION0
