Natwest Standing Orders

When setting up a Standing Order with Lloyds, Halifax and even Santander the process is instant - for example I can set up a payment for tomorrow and it will happen.

With Natwest I've tried to do that today and if offers the first payment day as next Wednesday - is that right?

It used to be 2 working days before a payment could go, I'm not sure if that's changed with faster payments though as I no longer work in personal banking. I would have thought it could be sent by Monday.

I am assuming you are trying to set up a Standing Order via online banking, and if the earliest first payment date is two working days then I assume the Bank have put this in for a reason. If it is a problem then simply set the Standing Order start date to the second payment date you require, and make a separate instant “Faster Payment” as a one off to cover the first payment.

The timescales used to be different depending on how you did it (online -v- telephone -v- branch) which in part was allegedly security but I'd take a guess it also has a systems consideration
