Arranging desktop icons

Hi all,
I'm running Windows 7 and, I guess like most people, I have a photograph as a destop background with my programe and file icons arranged around it.
Since about lunchtime yesterday, every time I do a restart, the icons have decided to bunch themselves over to the left of the screen.
I've not changed anything (certainly not intentionally). Is there any way I can stop this happening?
Apologies by the way, I'm a complete techno mong so please forgive any dozy questions I may ask.

The first option is View
Untick 'auto arrange icons'
Should do the trick

Hmm - thanks for that. But when I just tried it - 'auto arrange icons' wasn't ticked in the first place?0

Then just move them back where you want them-if it's not ticked then they should stay where moved to.No free lunch, and no free laptop
