Unit prices

Sorry it's not food but supermarket related.
Tampax Tampons x 20 £1.98/ 9.8p each
Asda Tampons x 20 £1.00/10p each. (should of course be 5p each)
This is how the prices are displayed in Asda at present.
On Friday I went to CS and drew their attention to the mistake as I almost bought the dearer ones thinking they were the best value.
CS thanked me for drawing their attention to it and assured me it would be corrected.
I walked away unconvinced, and when I checked on my next visit yesterday, as I suspected they haven't been changed.
I am thinking of emailing their CS but wondered if anyone knows if there is a law regarding unit pricing?

Yes, there is. The Weights and Measures Act 1985 and the Price Marking Order 2004 issued under it. It's enforced by local Trading Standards departments, and infringements are a criminal offence.
Obviously, the figures should be accurate. For things sold by number, it should be the price each. For things sold by weight, it depends on the weight they're sold in. For example, something weighing 25g should have a price per 10g, 250g per 100g, 2.5kg per kg.
ASDA do seem to have a ... how can I put this kindly? ... lackadaisical attitude to this. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Id email asda CS, from my experience the details on teh tickets can't be chnaged in store and its down to HO or who ever to change the details. All teh store can do is report the error in the hope that a new ticket is sent to the store to be printed.0

That's because you spend too much time on here listening to people shouting about checking the unit price to get the best value.
You should not need to look at the unit price when one pack is £1.98 for 20 and the other is £1 for 20.0 -

The unit price ( if it was displayed correctly ! ) will tell you which is cheaper. If you want to decide on which is the best value you would need to buy and use both and then decide for yourself and will be a different answer for different people0 -
I have used both in the past and they are much of a muchness. They were both packs of 20 and I've got into a habit of looking at unit prices first rather than the pack price, like when I buy cheese I always check the price per kg first.
I did email Asda CS and received a very nice reply and they assured me that they would speak to the Grocery Manager at the store and make sure the correct unit price was displayed.
5 days later on my next visit it still hadn't been changed, or indeed the day after so I emailed again and response was that they have telephoned the Store Mangager and he assured them it would be corrected. We'll see.0 -
Asda's own tammies are always going to be cheaper than Tampax surely? Unless the latter is on offer. Asda's are probably made out of that scratchy Isel bogroll or bits of cardboard or something."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

15 days since I first emailed and it still hasn't been corrected.0

All price tickets are sent down centrally. No one at store level can adjust the price per unit on the item so it will be the same. Since the actual price hasn't changed I'm guessing the adjustment (if anyone at HO even bothered to do it) wont be picked up until either the price does change or it's sent down on the daily changes. Even then the person putting new tickets out might just see the item price hasn't changed and not bother changing the ticket.
I doubt anyone in CS has ever worked on price changes or has any idea how the prices are adjusted on tickets otherwise they wouldn't be advising that the store will be the ones fixing the issue.0 -
Bit radical but CS could always use a biro and cross out the incorrect unit price and insert the correct one.
I'm sure that Asda have biros and calculators if they need to check the maths!
I think I would be tempted to do this myself if I was the OP.0 -
Ooh Emma I'm tempted!
Latest response.
Hi
Thanks for emailing me about this again. I'm very sorry this hasn't been
resolved yet.
I received an email from our Lancaster store stating that they've identified the
source of the problem. We've located a problem in the way our pricing system
reacts to price changes.
Our buyer for this department has confirmed that she's rectified the mistake.
Thanks again for your perseverance, You should see a price change in
store soon.
Kind regards
