These people are not even in the UK.
Casting scams are common, even genuine casting companies run them by charging people money for a sheep dip photo and a portfolio on a website, its easy easy money and very few ever find any work.

As said before, a real extra company would take money out of fees, not ask for it upfront. My OH looked into an extras company advertised in a national newspaper and they were looking for something like £100 upfront.
