has anyone checked these people out? It seems like a good idea, but I can't help but feel that anything claiming such high returns mst be a risk.

Having read it at a glance:
Each "Opportunity" / "Profile" / "Project" is actually setup as a LLP (Limited Liability Partnership) company.
Your £10 000 or more buys you a share in that company, and as such, you are entitled to the returns and capital at the end.
Of course there are risks with everything, and I would say there are plenty of more risks investing in something like this. Nothing is regulated by the FSA, you'd have to understand the contract you enter into to make sure you aren't being ripped off. You also have to be rich, i.e. have more than £250 000 of current assets other than your home, or a £100 000 salary.0
