    So you've got some electric gadgets from China, which are not made for the UK market and you come on this forum for advice.

    Nobody yet has mentioned safety.

    My advice is to find a qualified electrician to look these over. The salesman in Maplin won't be qualified.

    Thank you Dave_C! :A Gadget B was purchased from the US and has FDA approval. Gadget A I am testing for efficacy for my friend's (a US citizen) business and has the CE mark. My apartment also has modern circuit breakers. I *think* this makes use as safe as gadgets I can purchase in the UK or am I being naive? :o

    Best advice is to test with a multimeter, as suggested above - everyone should have one in their toolbox, so many uses such as testing fuses, bulbs, adapters!, etc. It will tell you what power, if any, is coming from the adapter.
