Have you had notification of entitlement? I don;t see how you would be?

Huh? Sorry i'm not too sure what you mean. I have been to the place twice, once to sort all my documents (I did my claim online) and yesterday (all i did then was sign a form)

Does this mean i'm entitled to JSA? I have a meeting with my advisor on 6 june

I mean have you been officially informed that you are entitled to the benefit? You've been to an NJI (interview to start the claim) and you've 'signed on' (signed a declaration that your circumstances haven't changed etc)

But the requirement to do these things don't necessarily mean you have entitlement to the benefit.

It's far from my area of expertise, but it does sound to me like you are a full time student and so would not be entitled.
  • Thank you :) no I haven't been officially informed, will they email me or send me a letter or something?

Oh god, if I don't get it or a job in the next month I am screwed! It'd just be easier if I moved home until it's time to go back to uni

Moving back home sounds like a good idea. You could still claim JSA providing you are actively seeking a job, give yourself time and return to uni when you feel able.

Thank you, I had to hand in a 'letter of abandonment' but they didn't ask about anything related to my loan.

I left my course at the end of March but am hopefully returning to continue my studies in September. SAAS paid my fees for the course and I get a loan too. They didn't stop my loan on the date I left uni though so i'm guessing i'll have to pay that back?

Also thanks for clarifying epitome, your post is really helpful!

But have you officially left your course or have you just deferred your studies?
  • Hey, sorry guys forgot to reply. I applied on 16th may and received £72.33 JSA today. I was just wondering, is that per week or per fortnight? Does anyone know?

Also I went to hand my tenancy agreement in and they didn't take it? even though they told me to bring it in. Will this affect my payments? Cheers

If over 25 JSA is £71 per week. If under 25 it is £56.25. Sounds like they have paid a week and a few days if under 25 - strange amount if you are over 25 though. I would ring them.
How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.
  • I'm under 25 so I don't understand it? Would I be getting £36 a week? I don't have any income or anything so I don't understand it. Or is that £72 a week inc. housing benefit? I didn't directly apply for HB, just filled in a JSA application online and then went to the place to sign

You've been paid about a week and 2 days worth. Which is 9 days so would be for the first 12 days of your claim.

Given that your claim was made 16th May that would be right.

You'll be paid fortnightly from now on.
  • Ok :) thank you! So does that mean i'll receive like £56 a week then but paid every fortnight? No-one explained anything to me haha, I have a meeting with my advisor on the 6th though. Do I just have to fill in my booklet and show her? What do I do if I can't find any suitable jobs in a week. (I know this is unlikely but would I get in trouble? I mean I can;t apply for construction work or joiner or anything which is all there seems to be around here :| )
