Any budget improvement ideas for my garden?
We moved into our house a couple of months ago. It's been completely renovated but there is very little money left for the large, corner plot garden.
It had been owned by an old alcoholic who left it to rack and ruin. There were several fully grown trees when we bought it. These have been treated and got rid of.
The basic plan is to have a large patio across the length of the back of the house. Then we've planted grass seeds for approx 25 feet square as turf was going to be about £800 which we don't have. My father in law kindly rotavated this land first and also the similar size plot next to it which we want to use to grow veg. There are lots of wood chippings as you will see from the photos which must have been left from the tree surgeons. There is the remains of a rockery at the end of lawned area.
Then to the side of the house there is just mess. i would like a car port made eventually. This area is so much higher than the path due to 20 years of built up leaves andwe thunk there is possibly a garage under there too.
The front is not too bad, ive planted a few plants immediately outside the house but to the side of the front door is a mess of nothingness which ive chucked some wood chips over.
Ive had a bloke round tonight to give me a quote for the patio which im hoping will be no more than 600 quid as this is all we have left and the hard labour has been done by digging the foundations already. I can do the rockery myself. Its the area beyond the potentially grassed area at the side of the house which is really driving me mad. I have no idea how much it would be to have a gardener do something with it and als the front of the house.
My husband has no interest in gardens apart from sitting in them when ive done the hard work and our last garden was a fractionof the size so i could manage it. I think he wpuld be more help once it actually took shape.
Here are some photos anyway. To follow.
Thanks for any replies.:)

to make all my improvements to my garden and build my greenhouse I have recycled as much as I can from buildings sites and skips.. of course I asked every time!!God helps make my veggie patch grow. He provides everything I need.. It only fails if I do NOT do as He has told me!!

I think the secret to gardening (if you have too much space) is to reduce it to a manageable level ie gravel or paved areas that you cant cope with
gardening should be a joy not a chore
when you get more confidence / get on top of it, you can gradually turn those gravelled areas in to growing spots with pots or digging a bit of gravel away and planting
why be a slave to your garden?Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

Yes you are right. I'm wanting everything done straight away and we can't. I can cope with the area immediately outside the house once the patio is down then we will have to save up to get the other part sorted.
People keep saying how lucky we are to have such a large space but its such a lot of work and expense.0 -
The secret to any garden is to work with what you have got, a little at a time, and let it evolve. I am not a believer in huge fast changes. Even on new veg plots I prepare, plant and mulch a meter at a time. It gives you time to really look at what you really want to achieve. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
