If you wanted to step it up a bit more, like moi, I'd go for the i7-2600K, which overclocks really well and still keeps relatively cool.
Seems a bit OTT to me.

Indeed, but only reason I've gone OTT is so it's going to be fast enough for me to use, game, record, livestream etc for a good while.
When the time comes, I know it won't be a !!!!!! to upgrade parts either. (hence the massive case)- David0
