DLA question

My DLA used to be renewed every year or so when I was younger, but now I'm an adult (21), the last claim I made (about a year ago) came back as Low Care and Low Mobility indefinitely.
I'm registered blind after being born with a rare eye disease. I have some vision, but require a lot of support from family friends.
I'd like to appeal the decision, even though it was over a year ago since I received the devision. Is this possible?

What was your award before this one.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
It is too late for you to appeal.
If you have had a change of circumstances then you can notify them and try to get your decision changed.
It is best to get help from some one like CAB to do this.0 -
If it's over a year, but under 13 months, it's within time for a late appeal.0

Before I was 16, I received (or rather my parents) middle rate care and I believe lower rate mobility. After that, I began to complete the forms myself and by the time I had a claim when I was 18, it had dropped to lower rate for both.pmlindyloo wrote: »It is too late for you to appeal.

Okay, thank you.rogerblack wrote: »If it's over a year, but under 13 months, it's within time for a late appeal.
Thanks. I'll dig out the paper work and see how long it's been since the decision was made. Thank you.0 -

I'm lost too with your comment! The 13 month rule runs from when you received the decision and NOT when the claim was submitted!mynameistallulah wrote: »Not difficult for you to get confused though is it, so many different stories!
TheEffect, can you explain why you answered as if you were the OP please?
Sorry about that. I have two accounts here (Opened one to ask a question that I did not want a family member seeing who knows one of my usernames) and I sometimes get confused which one I've posted with.

Thanks for the responses. As I mentioned, it was over 13 months ago so an appeal is out of the question. My last claim also came back with an 'indefinite' renewal/end date, so it looks like I can never appeal it.0 -
can you just not makea new claim ,with change of circumstances, they always say if any change let them know0

Everyone on DLA from 2013 has to go for a review and assessment to continue getting their benefit. I have heard of lots of people getting their benefit cut back so your certainly not alone. I think your best bet is to pick up the telephone and ring them up and ask. If its too late there is next year when you will be asked to go for an assessment where they might change their mind about the award they have offered you and alter it accordingly.Society always tramples down on those that are different. Abnormalities are smoothed over. I strive to be a wrinkle.0
