New boiler needed- what do I do?

Hi All,
I have boiler and central heating cover with Shield and I had my yearly maintenance check on the boiler last week. At the time the Shield plumber said it needed a new seal and he'd put silicion gel around as a temporary fix. So he was going to get his parts dept to see if they could get it .
They have since rung and said that the part is no longer available as my boiler is obsolete (Blenheim 30/40) unfortunately that means my boiler is non repairable and I need a new one.
I have rung around all the plumbers merchants in Cardiff but no luck.
So my question is, what do I do next- my boiler is working, my hot water and heating works- do I have any other options?
And if my only option is a new boiler, does the person fitting it need to be a 'competant fitter' or just gas safe? I suspect from what the man was saying I'd also to move my vent as it was put in before the last regs and so is too close to the window, so does a plumber do this or do I need a builder also?
All in all, I need your help.
Cheers

Hi
..you need to get a second opinion from a RGI recommended to you by a source
you trust. He/she will be able to advise you after inspecting your installation.

Beware gas men who tell you that your boiler needs replacing.
There are plenty of spares available for plenty of boilers.
Do an internet search for "Blenheim 30/40 spares" and you'll see what I mean.
The trouble you'll have is finding someone who will tell you honestly whether your boiler can be repaired or not rather than trying to scare you into a new boiler.
As ever, get more than one opinion / quote for any and all work.
I have no idea what part is gone, but am highly suspicious of anyone who is supposedly gas competent who then uses silicon as a temporary fix !
If you are looking for a new boiler then you will need a registered Gas Safe engineer to do the work to comply with the law and building regs.
If your existing flue position needs changing the Gas Safe engineer will advise and can do this work also as it's part of a boiler installation.
You can find Gas Safe engineers in your area by searching the Gas Safe Register website here:
gassaferegister.co.uk
Alternatively, try posting a job on one or more of the many trades websites like mybuilder, myhammer etc.

Hi,
I'm getting a local gas engineer to come and see if it's repairable or not.
Fingers crossed.0
