New Kitchen - Wickes vs others + prices

The only thing going for Symphony over Wickes/Bmarx is colour coded carcasses. In probably most other ways includiing quality of finish I would argue they are worse (but then again I may be a bit biased on the subject;)).
To ask for nearly twice as much is optimism or greed of the highest order. They should be about the same or cheaper on an equivalent door.....0 -
Im having a run of tall oven housing, 150 pull out, 900 draws and another 150 pullout. The hob will sit in the 900 draws. The reason for this set up is to allow 300mm from the oven housing for the gas hob. I could have a 300 mm unit then 600 draws. But the 150 pull outs are of more use to me and it looks nicer, as this run goes into a corner. This design is my choice not the kitchen company. I have designed my kitchen around useable space for my needs. I have no wire works apart from the 150 pullouts, as I find these a waste of money. Everything that I cant reach in my cupboards are there as I hardly ever get them out, (best china, best cutlery, dinner service). Why pay £400 for a carousal that I wont use. Rather spend the money on decent appliances!
With regard to german kitchens they are out of my price range. I have been to several independents and told them my budget and they have said that the german kitchens is out of my price range.:(:(
Hi Woody
Price of a German kitchen, lets get that one out the way first! Earlier in the week I had a member of this forum contact me to give a comparable price on a small kitchen, he had been to John Lewis for a quotation on their 'First Collection' this is made for them by Symphony kitchens and this range John Lewis use to compete with the likes of Ikea and Wickes. I priced like for like the same kitchen, the John Lewis cabinetry price was £2,285 and our price was £2,261.
You mention your design using a 150 mm pullout either side of a 900 wide set of drawers under your hob, I suspected this was how you would be using them. How about a 1200 mm wide set of drawers instead, this would give you greater overall storage space and probably save you some money to.

can I do a small thread hijack and ask if people can recommend alternatives to the "big" 2 (Wickes or B&Q) as I need supply only. Having googled it appears Bmarx is trade only so who are the others...
I am more than capable of doing the cabinet fitting myself and have already had a sparks in to fit the new circuits. I do not need (will not pay for) a fitter to assemble boxes using screws and dowels and I reckon I can cut a worktop using a jig and router just the same as any "professional" .

Just out of interest what german kitchens do you supply?0 -
I don't think Wickes or Sheraton do these size draws. The reason for the pullouts was for bottles and Spices. Im only having 3 wall units as I have 2 x 3m windows in my kitchen, so not much wall. The other wall Im having knocked down! I find it really annoying that alot of bottles/cereal boxes don't fit in wall units, hence the 150 pullouts! I could have bigger wall units 900 mm but then I can't reach the top of the unit.

Hi Woody
I've sent you a PM.

If you are getting it done through a builder, ask if they are registered at B&Q's trade only section, TradePoint. If so, you will get around 30% off their prices which will mean a fair bit off the RRP.
Worth a visit IMO0 -
BTW, I forgot to add that this deal with "tradesmen" is only available until the end of the month. It does provide hefty discounts, however as stated previously it is always best to shop around.0

Any other B&Q deals you want to advertise mr Pav?..........:spam:0

indeed it is spam - who would want 30% of sumit crap anyhow??0
