hi,
i am with More Than for buildings insurance and have been since 1998(Royal & Sun alliance back then). firstly my significant payments over the years have been-
2002-2003 £639-47 buildings insurance only
2003-2004 £936-72 buildings insurance only
2004-2005 £1457-34 buildings insurance only
2005-2006 £1856-71 buildings insurance only
2006-2007 £537-82 buildings insurance only (1st payment 31st Mar 2006)
2006-2007 £467-57 buildings and contents insurance (from 30th Jan 2007)
2007-2008 £667-00 buildings insurance only though would obviously prefer b & c at a desirable price not £976-71
in 2001, i had tree root damage to my property and had repairs done through my insurance. after seeing my insurance shoot up between 2002 and 2006 i complained and asked why-i was told that it was because they thought my property was being left unoccupied because of my job- i said this was untrue and my payments were then adjusted to what i felt was a good value. i didnt ask for any refunds. anyway january this year i thought it was a good idea to get contents insurance aswell and was told id actually be paying less if i added contents so i did this. i have just received my annual renewal sheet through and it is for £976-71 so have decided to revert to buildings insurance only. this value is for £667-00 and i have sent a letter querying it and have been told it is correct and 'advise that at this time the renewal figure offered is our most competitive price based on your policy details'. well my situation has not changed yet the cost of buildings insurance alone has shot up by £130-00, an increase of 24 per cent. i am very worried that this is the start of increases like they did in years previous.
Because i have had tree root damage it is not an easy case for me to just switch insurers. can anyone help or advise what i should do? sorry for long post but thought best to explain my circumstances.
