Safe Deposit Boxes - check out this BBC report: -
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17224846
Also this one: -

The last one is in London, but google "Safe Deposit Boxes" and they are in several other localities. I think the problem reported by the BBC, began after Barclays lost £190,000 of someone's money and valuables, (!!!) as a result Barclays and others are stopping this service.
Needs more research, I think, into the actual companies now providing this service. And I would expect the charges to be higher than those once provided by banks. It may be worthwhile buying your own safe and using a trusted source to install it somewher in your property that is easlily concealed, with no obvious trace of its presence.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

If you are within the M25 there's Metro Bank which offers the facility for its current account customers.

i went to metro bank today and they do this and its straight forward.
i am concern how safe are they as they seems to be a new bank?
any ideas?0 -
My understanding is that the bank own the box, not the contents.
So if they go bust the creditors will not be able to seize the contents of your box, they will have to let you retrieve it.0 -
one for the bank and one for us (2 copies)0

presumably the bank *don't* insure the contents of the box, since they can't know how much it's worth.0

Correct, and Metro Bank are very clear about it:grey_gym_sock wrote: »presumably the bank *don't* insure the contents of the box, since they can't know how much it's worth.Any valuables that you keep in your safe deposit box should be properly insured for their full value. Keeping valuables in a safe deposit box should not be seen as an alternative to insuring them.0 -
yes i do understand that, can we trust this bank? looks like they have started 2 years back0
