Hi with 'Avast' (antivirus) is it best to have 'Scan PUP' (Potentially Unwanted Programs) turned on? & why isn't it anyway?

Disabled is the default setting.
PuP's are exactly that - Potentiallyunwanted Programs. (emphasis on potentially unwanted). These are programs that may be unwanted for a variety of reasons, but it is recognised in some cases that they have been legitimately installed by the computer administrator.
Some may be freeware that is ad-supported (adware), but you may have agreed to the install and the terms of the EULA pointing out that use of program means you agree to have the adverts delivered to your pc.
Many people may have PuP's installed on their machines. If you understand the detection should you have any, then by all means scan for them.
I guess too many people would freak out if they saw Avast detecting programs they had installed, didn't understand the detection & thought they were riddled with "viruses".0 -
