I do my shopping online at Waitrose because they don't substitute with rubbish and I can be much more discipllined and not impulse buy. I tried Mr T and sainsburys and both sent all sorts of stupid substitutions, which Waitrose never do. I certainly spend less that way as if I go to visit Mr T I come away with so much impulse stuff I spend double what I spend on my brilliant Waitrose delivered order. And they are very aware of producers margins, and animal welfare, both of which I feel I should support.

I adore Waitrose! Their product quality is fab, their staff are all shareholders so have more enthusiasm for their work (hence better customer service) .

Another good point. Yes, in my experience the staff are way better than other supermarkets. The peeps behind the deli counter, cheese, fish, butcher's counters are really well informed and, sorry to say it, sound educated (apologies to other supermarket workers, but that's my experience). I shop regularly in the Malvern and the Droitwich branches of Waitrose and find the staff in both stores friendly, informed and helpful.

Ocado also offer free deliveries if over £75 is spent, you can order a "green" delivery (when you van is in the lcoal area) to save the environment a bit AND they are always sending money off codes if you miss a few weeks' shopping with them! Very useful if you want to do a big shop once a month.

  • How can I do the comparisons you have done - for my basic shopping at least, i.e, bread, milk, cold meat, fruit, veg, rice, pasta, etc? Do you have a site you use or do you google? Yes I AM a lazy sow but I can also make a difference. :D

Mysupermarket is an online comparison site. I havent actually signed up with them, but I dont think you need to in order to compare prices.

On the subject of Ocado, I've had nothing but problems with them. I also love the fact they dont make daft substitutions (I've heard a story about someone who asked for Vegetarian Sausages from Tesco's and got pork ones!) and have the eco-delivery option, but every order I've made has had something missing and they've driven back to me again to drop it off on another day. Not eco or customer-friendly, IMO. They've also missed the delivery slot on 5 out of 6 occasions. I just find it too stressful using them, so I go to the shop myself.
