Gardener advice...

So I moved into my own place last year (rented) and got married, and looked forward to spending afternoons sitting in the garden, however my garden is overgrown and vile and I know nothing about gardening, and dont really have time to break my back pulling up weeds (my garden has an infestation of a weed which has little blue/purple flowers on it?) and trimming trees etc (OK, I kinda do have time, I just want to spend that time relaxing as I work crazy hours!)

I want to look at getting a gardener in who could maybe do a few hours each fortnight getting rid of the weeds and caring for high maintenance plants, mow the lawn, who could get my garden to a reasonable state, but I have no idea how much something like this would cost. I know I can look on Yell and get a free quote, but I would feel bad if they quote something I dont want to pay and then I have to let them down, so if anyone has any experience of a rough cost (or is a S/E gardener in Walsall) what would I expect to pay per hour, and what kind of time would a gardener want to be doing in a small but overgrown back garden?

No idea, doing my own garden's one thing I'll happily put time aside for....sorry.

I think the going rate for a gardner round here is around 12 pound an hour.

Why don't you see if any local kid/teen on your street will cut the grass. Could offer them £10 a week or something. Regular cutting will keep weeds down as well.

As for trimming trees I think doing it once or twice a year would be fine so something you can do yourself or hire an expert.

Get a big tin of the strongest weedkiller you can to clear the lot. Then next year start all over again.
