opening a savings account in orlando

I travel to orlando once or twice a year and have to change my money and i am wanting to open an account there and transfer money from my account here to a savings account there in orlando so when i go i do not have to change my money and i can use a debit card there without any charges, and as i hope to go at least 3 times a year from next year it would be cheaper and quicker. but i am having problems finding where in florida i can open a account as a non resident, i have the same address i stay at in a private home, some say they walked into a bank and just opened an account and when i approached a bank in florida they wanted a address in florida and my social security number which i do not have. so how and where can i open a savings account in orlando florida, can any one help:mad:

Hi robertwashington, and welcome to MSE :hello:

As you have discovered, it can be difficult if not impossible to open a bank account without proof of identity and address (in the country you wish to bank!)

Have you considered opening an international bank account in this country? A USD bank account appears all you need isn't it?

But wherever you bank, if you earn money in GBP, then you are going to have to pay exchange fees somewhere if you wish to obtain USD.

Free but there is an exchange rate to take into account. OP wants a US$ account probably so they don't have to keep exchanging their dollars back and forth. Something like this may be of interest...

I use a Halifax Clarity credit card when I'm over there.

No charges for using abroad, no annual charge and the Mastercard exchange rate was better than I got at the Post Office.

Since the late 1990's it has not been possible for a foreign national who is not either a Resident Alien or Non-Resident Alien with the correct immigration status to get a SSN.

However it is possible to register/apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) which serves the same purpose for tax and identification requirements and was introduced just for this situation.

Without this it will not be possible to open any Bank account in the U.S.
