    Xmas Saver!
    Hi mum2one,

dont me silly you're not prying at all! i really appreciate all of your help.
Glad uou didn't mind me being cheeky,

about the tyres... its both my front tyres need replacing :( they said my back ones are OK. im assuming the tracking will be right as it had a major service back in March... guessing they check it then? if not on the MOT right? :S
genrallt the tracking usually gets done when the tyres go on, it could just be bad luck that both need replacing at same time.

my boyfriend and I have decided to combine our debts as it works out we will clear them sooner. so starting with the highest APR the 5000.00 loan for his car will be cleared first. he will pay the minimum of 163.50 along with an additional 140.00 where as at the min (looking at my SOA) I can only put an additional 45.00 minimum at it. once this is cleared he will then be putting the same towards my debts to help me get rid of them :)
Thats sounds a good idea, - would say check with the loan as some will allow an overpayment others will only allow you to pay off at certain points through the loan period, and then its final settlement.

you're advice about the holiday has really cheered me up! you're right, although we are in debt doesnt mean we dont deserve a break. so it may mean adding a few months onto our DFD but that's OK if we are still heading in the right direction.
If I didn't have my hols I would go stir crazy... I'm taking DD to Lapland before Xmas.... The way i think yes its a few more months, but your less liable to resent the debt and go and have a massive blow out on junk etc.

Since doing the above SOA I have worked out i should be OK in getting all the monies together for everything that needs paying out including my mums birthday :) im just hoping the insurance renewal is OK! thats the only thing i dont have an exact figure on yet... need to wait for my renewal which i probz wont get until next month.
Thats brill about money and including a birthday, there a lot of threads related to money making, present making, cutting back but doesn't look like it, may be worth having a look.
I do one thread - Santas Challenge, and the sister thread thrifty gifty, we all support each other with bargain hunting, cheaper presents etc

The car ins - once you get your renewal ita def worth shopping around, the one thing i would say with cashback is the cashback is a bonus, only take the policy id its def cheaper than what you got, then if there is a prob with cashback your not out of pocket.

What I do, is when i get renewal, - look at the companies website if its cheaper ring up and says its £xx, there come back with its introductry discount, so i just say i'll go somewhere else, 99% of the time they come down,

about your comments on me SOA:

    - when i say theyre are 3 adults in the household, thats me, my mum & my boyfriend. Technically my partner doesnt live here, just stays here alot :) so nope im not responsible for them and the car situation is a car per person so again I am only responsible for my own and no one elses.
    - i have based my SOA purely on me alone, so my income & my debts as my partners money is his moneys aslong as he pays for his loan thats all i ask
    - yep still living at home, i would pay more than 50.00 but my mum understands its all i can afford at the min!
    you've got a great mum!
    - 40.00 for the phone bill i know is high. it usually comes to around £35/36 but i like to slightly over budget just incase. I was in a contract which was £45.00 a month until recently when I phoned orange and managed to get them to drop my plan to £35.00 as i dont use everything i was paying for so unfortunately cant drop this any more at the min
its worth trying 6 months from when you had the last drop down, keep an eye on your end of contract date.
    - the clothes situation: i really dont spend anything on clothes recently which is why i havent budgeted. sad i know. i may start trying to get myself something once a month... if this becomes the case i will amend by SOA accordingly
    - my car insurance is high because of my age. well its low for my age group, but still high. I am only 22, with one years no claims & one years driving and 2 non fault accident £860 was the cheapest i could get last year, hopefully my renewal will drop by £100 or more seeing as i now have 2 years driving exp and 2 years no claims :) will deffo have to look into the cashback sites for this year! never used them before? does that work even if you renew with the same company? (they always seem to come out the cheapest)
you should get something a bit cheaper as you now have 2 yrs no claims, - when i was younger (41 now), at 17 car ins sky high, then when you had 1 yr behind you reduced, then it was 21, it went down this went to 25, now it seems to be 30...

    - i put £35 for the haircuts as its usually around £70.00 every 2-3months. sometimes it's longer though so again it is an over estimate for the budget. I live kind of in the country so the nearest college to me is in the town centre which is a good 20-30minute drive away and would mean having to pay for parking there too. its not good living in the sticks haha!!
    Better to over estimate

    - The £331.71 is actually my car finance, i have just over a year left on this - in 12 months time this will make a massive difference to the debts,
    - the personal loan - i got it out last year over 4 years, so have just over 3 years left but actually plan to have this cleared in 2013 -
don't push yourself to hard, but look at it this way your 1/4 of the way through it
    - i pay just over £1 interest on my Barclays overdraft so because I overbudget what i put in this account for bills etc. that is always covered by the overfall
    - you're right i am literally paying the bare minimum on my barclaycard. i was paying £100 a month but decided to drop it so i could put all my extra money at the debt we have with the highest APR - better idea, - maybe keep it at the sum your paying
    - yep the £1000 is with a family member and thats what is remaining it was approx £2600 what i borrowed - your nealry 2/3rd way throug

Even though my SOA shows I should have approx £45 minimum left over each month I never see this. So now I know it's there I just have to find it. I have taken my debit cards out of my purse so I literally cannot spend anything. I dont need to anyway I just do because I can. So all i have in my purse now is £10.00 left over from last weeks shop which I am trying to keep to use towards this weeks shop instead of taking out £20 i will take out £10 & £3.00 which I was refunded by Pets at Home yesterday and that is all I have and my aim is to keep that money as long as possible :)
Thats a gd idea, no cards meand no spending, that when things slip through the net

I really really do appreciate your time and help mum2one, its nice just to have someone actually interested in helping you. people who aren't in this situation, or who are and dont care, seem to get very bored/irritated with me trying to talk about it. but too be honest, before i was ever in the situation i would have probs been the same. so thankyou xx

    xx

This may sound daft but i wsh i knew what I know now, I wouldn't be in the mess that i'm in, i've had about 4 lightbulb moments, - it was only really autumn last yr that i guess the light switch stayed on. Its weird as theres people on here that in a way know more about me than my own family, but i could walk past them in the street and wouldn't know who there were.
Unless someone has walked in your shoes - they don't fully understand the situation,
For me my best mate, shes always oh your off on holiday, so I said to her you write down your expenditure just on pleasure and treats, I'll do the same we're swop. mine came in at less than £100 per month that includes paying for DD for ballet, tap, - my friends came in at £500 per month..
there was massage, facials, gym membership (doesn't go), meals out 3 times a week, theatre once or twice a month, cinema, popcorn and drinks!

Thats why i have the holidays and she doesn't!! but its not till you write it down you realise where it goes! xx

Hi antonia1 thanks for taking the time to comment :)

My Service was in March and it was then they told me I will need them replaced by my MOT in July. So they did give me advanced notice but it was my own stupid fault for not saving sooner :(

If I was you I would definitely double check why the tyres need replacing. If your tyres were illegal in March the garage should have replaced them there and then. However some garages (and it's done for the right reasons) recommend changing tyres at 3mm rather than the legal minimum of 1.6mm and perhaps that how they were able to give you this advance warning. But technically it shouldn't fail it's MOT.

Assuming your tyres aren't illegal and your front tyres have more tread why don't you look at swapping front to back (back tyres take less wear). Doing this may buy you some time to save......

mum2one, i am exactly the same! i just think of how much money i just through away and if i had actually saved it i wouldnt be in this position now! oh well you learn from your mistakes ay and aslong as we only make the same mistake onces atleast we know we are learning!!

    Hi j2009,

They told me in March that i had enough tread left on my front tyres to last me until my MOT in July and that my back tyres would need replacing approx March 2012. they did give me the exact mm left on each tyre but i cant remember off the top of my head :P they just need replacing due to wear & tear. i have had the car for nearly 2 years and this is the first time I have needed to replace the tyres. i think unfortunately i will have to just replace them, but if i stick to my budget its doable and hopefully they wont need replacing then for another 2 years!

    xx
