Do Building Society Accounts Show in Credit Reference Agency Reports?

Not sure if this is the correction section of the forums to ask this:

somebody told me that a savings account in a Building Society - as opposed to a Bank - would not show in credit reference agency reports i.e. with Experian, Equifax etc.

Tried to find clarification of his online, but couldn't.

Is that correct or not?

Many thanks.

  • You would be better off asking the specific building society, either in branch, by phone or email, as I am pretty sure they all vary with how much shows on your credit report

It depends on the account type, loans and mortgages should but a savings account can be identified as an identity search but that doesn't affect your ability to borrow.

You have been told by opinions4U that savings accounts do not appear in another thread. Savings accounts have nothing to do with credit so why should they appear ?

Another issue is proof of good conduct. Some utility suppliers (phone, gas, electric etc. ) will report the conduct of your account to credit reference agencies. Landlords can also report if they want to.

Sounds to me more like someone is trying to find a way to hide money so they can be given some, rather than trying to prove they are good with money so they can borrow some...
