You have obviously never worked in a factory on a production line where every minute of every day is exactly the same with absolutely no chance of variation unless the line stops for some reason and you get handed a brush to sweep the floor while you are waiting for it to start again.

You might want to work as a delivery person going from door to door in all weathers delivering pamphlets that nobody wants, getting threatened by dogs and possibly even bitten if you push your fingers through the door too far.0 -
As an ex-supply teacher, I have worked with a fair number of classroom assistants. Some are excellent - great rapport with the children, up-to-speed with what's happening in the classroom, able to give me the heads-up about potentially disruptive pupils etc. Others didn't even know where the teacher kept the writing paper...
I think it's a job that is very much what you make it - and that's something that is entirely in your hands. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
The grass it not always greener on the other-side. Have you thought about re-training by night school. That way you can still enjoy the holidays and money until you are ready to move onto something else.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0

Wow I am surprised at these people. I am training to be a TA! I can't think of a more rewarding career. All I need is a job lined up for September!0

I feel so sorry for the children, you need to leave the job and then those children can have an adult with them who enjoys teaching and helpingBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

Agree with Blackpool Saver above. You should not be doing the job, the children would be better off with someone who cares about them.

Having trained as a teacher and decided not to pursue it further I can completely understand where you're coming from. The classroom environment and school system are not for eveyone - I realised this more and more as I saw dedicated, passionate teachers work long hours for a career they obviously loved while I struggled to summon up any interest or enthusiasm for the job.
Have you considered private tutoring? You do not need to be qualified as long as you know the syllabus and can inspire confidence in the students and their parents. It's a bit more risky and less secure but can be a good earner in some areas, especially in core subjects. You might start by getting a few students in the evenings and see if it suits you? The dynamic is different when you're one-to-one and I personally find it a lot more rewarding that classroom work.0 -
I've had a few jobs that just weren't for me, even if they were perfectly good jobs. When it comes down to it, if you're bored 5 days out of 7, no amount of pay will make it worth it.0
-
Would love to be a teachers assistant.Would you consider job swapping0
-
I completely disagree. I'm a teaching assistant in a reception class, and I love my job. of course there are good days and bad days, but its so rewarding to watch children grow and progress, and every day is different!
I think its as boring as you want to make it, and its about using your initiative and creativity.0
