I think my Acer is unwell......

My little Acer is about 5 years old and it was growing happily in a big pot in a sheltered spot in the garden; it's about three feet tall and just getting to be a nice shape BUT the new leaves this spring have come out very pale green, crinkly and shrivelled looking. :(

It's protected from the worst of the winds in a (walled) garden.

Any ideas?

I have a beautiful japanese acer in a large pot. Every few years I scrape as much soil out as I can and then I top up with new compost probably a john innes 3. I also water with rainwater and have put it in a semi sheltered place. I use pebbles on the surface and I give it plant food a couple of times a year. I don`t overwater, in fact I tend to neglect the watering a bit

If I were you I would start by scraping soil out of the pot and having a feel down there, then replace that soil with a good new compost

Is it a green one anyway?

Mine were eaten alive this year and look like you describe. Check underneath the leaves. I squirted mine with rose clear which did the trick
