I think my Acer is unwell......

My little Acer is about 5 years old and it was growing happily in a big pot in a sheltered spot in the garden; it's about three feet tall and just getting to be a nice shape BUT the new leaves this spring have come out very pale green, crinkly and shrivelled looking.
It's protected from the worst of the winds in a (walled) garden.
Any ideas?

I have a beautiful japanese acer in a large pot. Every few years I scrape as much soil out as I can and then I top up with new compost probably a john innes 3. I also water with rainwater and have put it in a semi sheltered place. I use pebbles on the surface and I give it plant food a couple of times a year. I don`t overwater, in fact I tend to neglect the watering a bit
If I were you I would start by scraping soil out of the pot and having a feel down there, then replace that soil with a good new compost0 -
Is it a green one anyway? You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0

Mine were eaten alive this year and look like you describe. Check underneath the leaves. I squirted mine with rose clear which did the trick0
