TESCO home phone call charges rip off WARNING!!

Hi all,

Just checked my Tesco home phone bill and saw that i had 13 pounds in call charges. I am very careful and never make any calls before 6pm so this drew my attention straightaway. I looked at the call charges and found that the times of the calls were just after 5pm instead of 6pm.

Basically it appears that somewhere, somehow the time on the system that logs calls was an hour behind regular time therefore charging for calls that should be free. I called TESCO and they have credited my account but i just wanted to warn others to check all call charges and query them asap if any discrepancies are found.

I think TESCO make enough profit without ripping off more cash from unsuspecting bill payers.

HTH

Sharon xoxo

Sounds like their network clock is on GMT not BST, point this out to them.

Thanx Saver0811, i did say something like that to them and have received my refund.
I would still like to let people know because i am sure TESCO won't alter anyone's bills without a phone call.

Me thinks that you send an email to Philip Clarke, Tesco CEO, to ask for some compensation for their incompetence and waste of your time in having to contact them.

I just wish that I could remember his email address;) to help you.

You could try a google serach with "ceoemail philip clarke" and see what turns up. You may get lucky;).

Why stop at the CEO? I would petition your MP to bring it up at Prime Minister's Questions on Thursday.

Apart from this one of course

Daft comments ? I think they were just pointing out in a sarcastic way (correctly IMO) that Tesco made a simple error which they then corrected when it was brought to their attention. The OP talking about a 'rip-off' was way over the top.

I would hope that they have refunded all customers who have been overcharged because of this error.

Completely agree. I just don't think in this situation to shout about a 'rip-off' is appropriate at all.

Hmm. It may not be the crime of the century but for someone who regularly makes a call just after the 'paid' period, this error could add up to a considerable sum. And it would be interesting to know if Tesco are going to pro-actively refund the people they have overcharged or are just going to quietly keep the money. If the latter then it is completely justified to say they are definitely guilty of a rip-off. I would be interested to know how you categorise taking £13 of someone else's money that you are not entitled to. (Bear in mind that these are people who will call the police if someone takes a couple of pounds worth of *their* property to which they are not entitled.)
